Chapter 3: Overturn Adversity, the Light’s Guidance—
Shigezane suffered Kobayakawa Takakage’s attack and collapsed. The received wound was so deep that it wouldn’t heal even when the power of her blood was used…
Masamune and the others were under pressure to make a painful decision.
We joined up with Oda army’s Mori Ranmaru-san and Toyotomi army’s Takenaka Hanbee-san and trespassed into Mouri territory.
We continued walking without exchanging word for a while, but suddenly Ranmaru-san stopped and spoke up.
[RANMARU]: “We’re traveling with a woman, and so shouldn’t it be time for us to take a break?”
[HANBEE]: “You’re right~. Even a guy like me is tired. Are you OK? You’re a hard worker.”
The two showed their consideration for me as they talked and both of them felt friendly and kind.
[YUZUKI]: “Thank you for worrying about me, but we need to hurry… I’m alright.”
[KOJUUROU]: “No, let us take a break. It’s said that more haste is less speed. I believe it would be better for us to take a short break around here.”
[KOJUUROU]: “If we move that fallen tree, it seems like we could create some seats.”
[RANMARU]: “I think it’s possible, but to be honest I don’t have much physical strength.”
[HANBEE]: “I wouldn’t lose out either in that case~. Look, I don’t look like I can carry heavy things, right?”
The fingers Hanbee-san presented as he said that were certainly slender and seemed suited for delicate work. It didn’t look like he did physical labor.
[KOJUUROU]: “… Then I’ll try moving it alone.”
[HANBEE]: “Wait. I did say I can’t carry heavy things, but I didn’t say I wouldn’t do it.”
[RANMARU]: “What are you planning?”
[HANBEE]: “If we use something like a lever, couldn’t we easily roll it?”
[RANMARU]: “I see… then why don’t we use this stick and pole?”
[HANBEE]: “That’s a good idea~! I’ll set it like this… okay, I leave the physical work to you.”
[KOJUUROU]: “I see… here we go then—“
Like that, the tree was moved without problems and we took a short break.
After our break ended and we began walking, Kojuurou-san called out to me when I was remembering what happened earlier.
[KOJUUROU]: “Did you get some rest? You seem to be somewhat happy…”
[YUZUKI]: “More like, how do I put this… I was thinking that you act the same wherever you are, Kojuurou-san.”
Kojuurou-san looked at me with a puzzled expression and so I hurriedly continued.
[YUZUKI]: “Even when you’re talking with Ranmaru-san and Hanbee-san, you naturally took on the managing role the same as you do in the Date army.”
[YUZUKI]: “Masamune-san is the general, but the role of the assistant is always you, Kojuurou-san.”
[KOJUUROU]: “However, I do not think I took on a managing role earlier just now. The one who proposed the idea was Hanbee.”
[YUZUKI]: “But the person who spent the last time and effort was you. That side of you never changes.”
[KOJUUROU]: “… You watch us pretty closely, don’t you.”
[YUZUKI]: “… Yes. That’s why I know that you and Masamune-san actually want to save Shigezane-san.”
[KOJUUROU]: “Do we look that soft?”
[YUZUKI]: “I don’t think you can call these things being soft. Is it such a wrong thing to think of someone as being important?”
[KOJUUROU]: “Nevertheless, there are times when a choice needs to be made. That is what it means to aim for uniting Shinga.”
[KOJUUROU]: “But… I am extremely happy that you did not choose to abandon Shigezane.”
[KOJUUROU]: “If you weren’t there, perhaps Masamune and I would have taken a different path.”
[KOJUUROU]: “So, allow me to give my gratitude. Thank you.”
I understand more than enough just how important those words were from Kojuurou-san’s talk.
[YUZUKI]: (This choice wasn’t easy for the both of them.)
[YUZUKI]: (In that case, I need to work harder in order to live up to their expectations.)
[YUZUKI]: “Kojuurou-san… we’ll definitely find a clue. I’ll do my best.”
[KOJUUROU]: “Yes. Let’s believe that the place we are heading towards has a clue to saving Shigezane.”
