Chapter 3: The Shape of Peace
To protect those they should, Motonari and the others chose the path of drawing their swords. After the battle, they passed a short time as they always did, but…
In front of this calm daily life, a small doubt suddenly sprouted.
[YUZUKI]: (Himemiko-sama… what should I do—)
When I called out to Himemiko-sama several times in my heart I suddenly felt a strange sensation.
[YUZUKI]: (…? What is this… I feel like I’m being called by Himemiko-sama… from outside?)
[YUZUKI]: (I don’t have any proof, but I’m going to go.)
[MOTOHARU]: “Ah, hey! Where are you going!”
[TAKAMOTO]: “Should we follow after her?”
[MOTONARI]: “Mm, let’s.”
I went out, called like that, and saw something shining in the far distance.
[MOTOHARU]: “Motonari-sama, that’s—“
[MOTONARI]: “I don’t understand… but isn’t that glowing location the shrine?”
[YUZUKI]: (The shrine… If I remember right, that’s the place where I first came to Mouri’s lands…)
[YUZUKI]: (Is it because I was calling for Himemiko-sama in my heart…?)
As that thought crossed my mind the dazzling light gradually disappeared.
[TERUMOTO]: “Oh, the light…!”
[MOTONARI]: “Yes, let’s go.”
[MOTOHARU]: “Nothing feels strange in particular.”
[TERUMOTO]: “… Huh? Something’s glowing in the shrine!”
[TAKAMOTO]: “There really is. This is… a bracelet?”
[MOTONARI]: “It appears so. It has not been noticed up to now though…”
[TAKAKAGE]: “Anyway, I want to take a closer look.”
Takakage-san said this and stretched out his hand, but before he could touch the bracelet his movement came to a sudden stop.
[MOTOHARU]: “Hey, what’s wrong?”
[TAKAKAGE]: “… This is weird. It feels like I’m being blocked by an invisible wall and I can’t get any closer than this.”
[MOTOHARU]: “Move. I’ll do it.”
Switching with Takakage-san, Motoharu-san reached out to the bracelet but the result did not change.
[MOTOHARU]: “It’s like Takakage said… Maybe something was set up?”
[TERUMOTO]: “Um, nothing seems out of place when I look around the shrine though.”
[MOTONARI]: “This is puzzling. It might be some sort of clue and yet we cannot touch it…”
[MOTONARI]: “First, it seems we must investigate starting from this phenomenon.”
[TAKAMOTO]: “Right… Once we return to the castle, I’ll look into documents written about this shrine.”
[MOTONARI]: “Mm, I entrust it to you. Then for now—“
[YUZUKI]: “Please wait!”
[MOTONARI]: “Princess…? What is the matter?”
[YUZUKI]: “That bracelet… I feel like I can touch it.”
[MOTOHARU]: “Takakage and I couldn’t even touch it. On what basis do you think you can do it?”
[YUZUKI]: “I felt like I was being called by Himemiko-sama all the way up to here. That feeling became clearer the closer we got to the bracelet.”
[MOTONARI]: “I see… I understand. I leave this to you, princess. If it’s you then, far from touching it, you may even be able to take it.”
[YUZUKI]: “Okay, thank you.”
[TERUMOTO]: “Motonari-sama, how come you think she can do it?”
[MOTONARI]: “From princess’ words, I feel as if that object might be a sacred treasure.”
[TAKAMOTO]: “Huh, that’s… a sacred treasure?”
[MOTOHARU]: “Before, when we read a book about Himemiko, she reacted to seeing a drawing on the sacred treasures…”
[MOTOHARU]: “If she’s feeling the same thing as she did then, the chances of this being a sacred treasure are high.”
I hesitantly reached my hand into the shrine and, surprisingly easily, was able to touch the bracelet.
When I picked it up like that our surroundings were enveloped by a bright light—
