About Me

Hiya hey hey! This blog is dedicated to otome games and other things related to a maiden’s heart. As you can see, I mostly translate (or summarize) Japanese otome games; sometimes, I do drama CD translations or other things like podcasts. I try to keep everything on this blog related to otome games though. Basically, this blog is a place to share my hobby with all of you!

Oh, just a note, I do my best to stay neutral when writing my posts but sometimes my opinions slip in, which anyone can feel free to disagree with so long as they remain civil and polite. This is the internet, but let’s stay friendly.

I’m almost always using the name “Ilinox” on the internet, so if you see that name then chances are it’s me! I’m easiest to reach through comments here, Twitter, or Tumblr. Don’t be afraid of striking up a conversation with me!

My Japanese is officially N2 level and so my translations shouldn’t be taken as gospel; the farther back you go in my blog’s past the clearer it is on how bad my Japanese was back then… but I’ve improved tons and I’d say most of my translations are accurate and word for word now.

If you’re curious about the person behind the blog, here are some random facts: I’m 25 years old, female, and I work as a legal assistant for the government (specifically criminal justice, so you can just call me the Defender of Justi– okay, no, sorry). I binge video games all the time and you only need to check my Twitter to see the latest thing I’m into.

I’m constantly updating my list of biases, which keeps track of my favorite characters across fandoms. It’s interesting to see what types of characters I gravitate towards though currently it looks like they’re all men with power because over half of them are kings, princes, or war generals… UHH… I swear I don’t have a megalomaniac fetish.

My favorite gaming platforms are PC and PSP/PSVita. I used to prefer PC otome games because ATLAS and AGTH were extremely helpful but the best way to improve your Japanese is to play without any translating aids and the PSP/PSVita has helped me tremendously here. For other games I almost always prefer the PC version over any consoles because my gaming rig is my child.

Lastly, but most importantly, this blog is a place for me to have fun and to share that with everyone. Therefore, while I’ll be trying my best to fulfill requests and complete any games I’ve started, I don’t want this place to be a chore or a heavy responsibility. What I do promise is that any game I’ve started a post about will eventually be completed; I can’t bear to leave things undone. That’s all and I hope anyone who passes by enjoys my blog! Please feel free to comment on any page no matter how old it is and I promise I’ll make an effort to respond to every comment.

I’m so glad I found your blog! I’ve wanted to play Diabolik Lovers for awhile, but there isn’t much that’s been translated, so I’ve put it off. Thanks so much for all your work translating. Do you think you will ever return to DL and translate more of the guys routes?

I’m working on learning Japanese. It’s a long process, though. I can understand more of what I hear, than what I read. It all still looks like a bunch of random lines at the moment! :)

Aww, thank you! I’m so glad you found this blog and was able to play Diabolik Lovers! No problem, I love being able to share my hobbies with other people (though my slow speed as of late has made me embarrassed). I’m actually still working on Diabolik Lovers and right now I’m on Subaru’s Ecstasy 6 so I’m close to finishing!

That’s awesome! It usually starts like that for most people, me included, with listening comprehension coming before reading comprehension. If you’re determined to learn Japanese I really recommend this site called Wanikani. It’s such a great way to learn kanji ヽ(*´ー`*)ノ.

    Hello there Ilinox! I stumbled upon your blog while I was doing my ‘research’ for my Diabolik Lovers editing jobs in wikia. The details were amazing! I mean, it’s so informative I just fangirl in the end. :)) Your posts about the routes are so tempting to read (I’m referring to those of the game) but in the end I decided to settle down with the ones that I’ve finished to avoid emotional game spoilage. ^^;

Anyway, as I was browsing through your DLovers route posts, I was listening to the drama CDs cause me and a fandom friend were currently working on translations of the CDs to add more info in our DLovers wikia page and then she suddenly messaged me saying “Hey the blog you shared to me has translations lol do we still translate? XD” and I was like “… ohh. Ohh! Maybe we can ask her if we can use her translation as one of the resources, combine our works and proofread it well then yay~”

… Point is, I’m basically asking for your permission to ‘use’ your own translations and put it together with ours for the DLovers wikia community. Our readers really this badly and sometimes we get lots of demands that even we have no control of (like “HEY WILL THEY RELEASE ANOTHER SEASON OF THE ANIME? THEY SHOULD RELEASE IT TELL THEM TO RELEASE IT LALALALA~” … and so on and so forth. ^^; I mean we’re just volunteers to spread accurate fandom info and facts and to keep the community alive; not the production staff. O:

Ooops sorry I suddenly ranted here; I’m sorry. D: Anyway, we’ll make sure to cite our resources properly and acknowledge the people that will help us spread love and more blood (ahihihi~).

P.S. I’ve listened to one of your reviews. Man, I feel like listening to an anime DJ or something. So eager you’re full of feels! <3

Oh where are my manners (and sorry for the long post too :< ). I'm Michieruchan; please call me Mich. o/ And I hope we can be friends, fandom comrade! o/

Howdy ヽ(*´ー`*)ノ! Aww, thank you for your words and it’s a good idea to keep yourself from being spoiled; there’s such a difference in experiencing the route by yourself and being able to hear the BGM and voice acting rather than just reading huge walls of text |D.

Sure, feel free to use my translations as long as you credit! I know my earlier translations could use a lot of touching up on (・ω\) you can actually see how my Japanese improved throughout the year by following my Diabolik Lover drama CD translations.

I know what you mean about receiving endless demands though… I hear a lot of my friends get some like those or just receive ridiculous ones. In my case, I just get friendly reminders asking for routes |D;; which I am unbearably slow at (really sorry for that).

It was nice to meet you, Mich! Don’t worry about the length of your comment since I’m sure this blog has seen many of those around. Let’s continue to share the Diabolik love around <3!

Hnnngh thanks, fandom comrade! >:D< I believe I'm relatively new in the otome gaming paradise. ^^; I'm more of a manga-drama CD person so it took me a while to discover the wonders of otome. It reminds me of my very first game… Tokimeki memorial: Girls' Side. <3 Such happiness when I played it (and again it's because of the wonderful voice of Midorikawa Hikaru XD). The english patch was still fresh and the second game's patch was still under construction. That's when I really started getting into the otome paradise.

Ohh I'm talking too much again. ^^; I've looked the games you've done here and I only know a few like Diabolik Lovers and Amnesia. D: I guess I still have a looooong way to go! \( # 3 * )/ I only get my games with the little help of my friends since I have an awful and poor internet connection so I rarely download since it'll be taxing for my connection. Wish I had better connection… OTL

Anyway, again I'd like to express my utmost gratitude to you! You've been doing well here in your blog so please do keep it up! I'm not a blog person; I'm more of an editor type that's why I settle in my wikia accounts. XD And ohh~ prior commitments like work and academics can be taxing but hey fandoms are still fandoms~ and it brings us to the lighter side of life. :D/

It's really nice to meet you! I'll message you again. okay? :D/

It’s so fun to hear how other people became interested in otome games, since we’re spread out so much with such a niche interest. You rarely hear games like these being advertised unless you know where you’re looking so it isn’t surprising to see that you only know a few like Diabolik Lovers and Amnesia (which both had animes).

There’s no rush to know them all though ヽ(*´ー`*)ノ they’ll always be here. I hope you end up finding other games that peak your interest (there’s such a large variety of them though I’m sure you’ll find something).

Aww, thank you for your kind words! Hopefully I’ll continue to plod along in this blog for a long while even if it takes me a long time to get things done (○´3`). It was great to meet you as well and feel free to comment whenever and wherever~!

Hello~ ^^ I stumbled upon your wonderful blog while I was searching for character summaries and walk-through for Diabolik Lovers and I just want to say thank you so much for all the efforts. ^^, But the way.. I got curious about your Japanese fluency.. Did you learn it all by yourself? I kinda understand general japanese conversations but I’m not confident about my katakana/hiragana reading skills.. ^^’,

      October 1, 2013 at 01:00

Hallo hallo! Aw, thank you for your kind words. I did indeed learn it all by myself.. sort of? Haha, I had help from my brother and my friends who were more fluent than me but the bulk of the work has to be done by yourself.

You’re already off to a good start if you can understand general Japanese conversations! Once you have the grammar sort of understood you can start looking up the individual words that might trouble or confuse you and then before you know it you’ll start remembering them as long as you see them over and over again or just start interacting with more materials in Japanese :3 Games like otome games are nice ways to pick up words.

Uwah my comment cut off Σ(Д`|||ノ)ノ well, what I wanted to ask was what I should learn first – Hiragana, Katakana or Kanji.. and is Kanji what is mainly used in otome games? I’ve heard it’s really difficult :< and is there a game that you reccomend that is fully voiced that might help my learning? :3

‘Ello and thank you for such kind words ♥~(‘▽‘人)! I’m so glad people find my side comments funny instead of obnoxious ;;; I’m never too sure if my sense of humor is all there.

I’ve been asked this question before so I’ll put a link HERE for a really in-depth answer which includes resources on how I started learning Japanese.

Short answer is to start with memorizing all the hiragana and katakana since knowing hiragana will help you pronounce kanji. Otome games use a mix of hiragana and kanji (if you take a look at a Japanese sentence the hiragana is almost like the grammar while the kanji are the words). Kanji is a bit more difficult to learn simply because memorizing a huge page of kanji is boring and you probably won’t remember that much; it’ll be easier to just pick it up in game as you play (so long as you’re patient and dictionary words you don’t know).

For games to start out with… I’d recommend games with settings in high school. Games like Storm Lovers, Starry Sky, and Amnesia all use pretty simplistic language.

In other words, it looks like I will be translating it… but wow I really need to clear the backlog of posts I should be getting out now before I tackle another game so ;;; I’m sorry but you’ll definitely have to wait until I finish all the routes in Amnesia Later.

Hello! I just wanted to give a big THANK YOU to you… because of all the effort you put into like translating and posting up your reviews of games. I came across your blog when I was searching for more reviews on Amnesia (which I am currently obsessed with~~) and was like totally dying of happiness when I saw you did some of the Amnesia Later routes! I especially love you go into detail for each route and not just write some short overall summary of it. It REALLY helps me when I play the game cuz I can’t read the text in the game and only vaguely understand what each character says when they speak (since my jap sucks). So having your guide by my side lets me experience the game as if I really understand it!

Anyways, I really appreciate what you do and wish I could do it too! But IDK, I tried learning Japanese but omg learning kanji was sooo hard and with school in the way I couldn’t really study it much ><

I'll be looking forward to reading the rest of Amnesia Later (if you plan on finishing it) and also Amnesia Crowd (if you plan on reviewing it too =3). Thanks again!

Hi hi! Aww, thank you SO much for your words (〃▽〃)キャー♪ I’m glad my long text walls were of help! I actually intended them to be sort of unofficial rough translation playthrough thingies when I first started them, so it always makes me overjoyed when I hear people using them to help them play the game! The more support for the company the better too so we can get more awesome games (人´∀`*).

There’s really no rush to learning another language! Especially when you’re doing it on your own time. You already deserve a medal and a cookie for that <3. But seriously, don't force yourself to memorize as much kanji as you can and just take it easy. I started off with an understanding of Japanese pretty much like you, only vague comprehension of what they spoke. But playing otome games was (and still is) a huge motivation for me!

Take it easy and before you know it, you'll start to memorize more and more words. It's also easy to recall kanji when you have specific scenes in your head /o\ 覚悟 will forever be linked with Ikki for me. That and the sentence structure ~ように, haha. It also helps when you have a guide that keeps you on the right track and which you can check to make sure you're understand things. I bet you've already learned a few more words through your playing of Amnesia Later. So keep at it! I bet one day you'll be able to do this too ヽ(*´ー`*)ノ!

I do plan on finishing Amnesia Later agkjghsg I-I'll be getting back to it soon, I swear. I'm still unsure about Crowd though /o\ but thank you again for reading and commenting!

Haha yea I think I’ll try to get back into learning Jap again… I only picked up on being able to understand some of the spoken language cuz of the massive amounts of anime and dramas I would watch xD and I never was really into trying to learn to read Jap cuz I didn’t really need it since a lot of manga was translated anyways… that is, until I learned of the world of VNs… especially otome games~~

I think I’ll make my friend learn with me cuz we’re both obssessed with wanting to play otome games and we like spent hours going through diff sites looking at all the character profiles, CGs, and sample voices of various games… Omg my friend was like even getting her mom to translate some kanji for her (cuz its like Chinese) LOL.

Anyways, thanks for your encouragement! It really makes me want to try and learn again haha. I really wish I was more determined to learn it back in highschool when I had more time on my hands… Now its like uni is killing me xP Haha maybe I should try taking the Jap intro class as an option…

Oh and once I’m done playing Amnesia, I’m gonna play some of the other games you reviewed! Cuz I like your reviews… they’re pretty interesting to read and its easy to understand… I know some other people’s reviews I read is like they’re kinda fob so I don’t really understand what they’re saying half the time LOL

Really? They said that to him? That’s kind of mean, was he really that bad at singing?

Haha, yeah, I had no idea that it was just a game, I thought that Kent made zombies or something. It was really great. Such an epic idea.
Ukyo falling asleep? I only listened to 2, the Amnesia of the Dead, and Meido no Kuni. It was quite funny, but I liked the first one more. lol, Ukyo falling into a hole under the printer or something, and Shin with rabbit ears saying: “oh, I’ll be late”, and he doesn’t really make it sound like he’s bothered about it, haha. And Touma as the Cheshire cat. hahaha
Yes-yes! So much mini dramas, it’s hard to realize it, well, and find them, haha.

Oh, by the way, did you see this? http://www.otomate.jp/amnesia_crowd/#system
Amnesia Crowd will have so hilarious mini games. Why does Shin wash the dishes? He doesn’t get any other job? Really?! So Kent does the cooking and Shin does the dishes. Poor Shin, that is so unfair, quite a nice plate by the way. Oh, and I guess you can practice your math with Touma, lol.

Hi! Just dropped by to say thanks for all the great translations of the games! I actually discovered your website yesterday when I watched the first episode of Amnesia by chance,, www I was wondering if you went to college at 16 since you said that you’re 20 but a senior in university.. Sorry if this seems creepy.. I just didn’t know a lot of people went to college that early, only one (my cousin).. www (・・;) and is it expensive buying all the games you review about? I rarely ever buy imported games since the shipping is very expensive.. What do you think?
And about Amnesia, I personally find Orion the most likable in a platonic sense out of all the characters, is that weird? He’s sarcastic and adds snide comments in and that’s just hilarious o(^▽^)o I don’t really find any of the four guys… likable? Well maybe I’m just weird that way lol. They seem too perfect I guess.

‘Allo! Thank you for your words and you’re welcome! Haha, were you searching for more information on the anime but was instead led to my site? /o\ I know I’m still stuck on the first or second page or something of google search.

Don’t worry, it’s not creepy since I offered up the information myself www I was 17 when I started university (skipped grades in high school). And it does get a bit expensive at times. It helps if you order regular editions only and don’t really care about the limited stuff ;;; I know I blew like 100$ for a BWS limited edition, but Hana Awase is cheap and like 50$. The shipping can get a bit ridiculous, but if you import games through proxies it gets a little cheaper rather than using things like Amazon and if you’re patient enough to wait for really slow shipping.

As to what I think about it… if you’re asking that in a “Is it worth it?” question then it really depends on you. It’s the same as any other hobby like buying clothes, make-up, good books, or other video games. I only spend money on the games that I think have really good potential and that I really like /o\ while the rest are samples that my friends shared with me.

Haha, I would argue a lot about Toma and Ikki being non-perfect but then this reply might end up being a huge TL;DR wall (not that it isn’t slowly reaching one already but… oops) but I don’t think that’s strange (。・ω・。) since sometimes characters just don’t appeal to us. I really like Orion a lot too because of his awesome commentaries on the side |D.

Hey, Ilinox, I was wondering, did you hear about the Amnesia Character CD’s? There are 3: Shin and Touma, Ikki and Kent, Ukyo and Orion. The Cd’s have 7 tracks. The songs are awesome! And the most, that I liked, were the mini-dramas where Shin and Touma, as Ikki and Kent changed bodies! It was so hilarious. I laughing so much at Shin and Ikki. And Ikki in Kent’s body was asked his name and he was like イッキ と も~ じゃ ない!
I was so looking forward to see Ukyo and Orion change bodies, but they didn’t, :(
P.S. I am sooo addicted to these songs now. hahaha

Hi hi! I’ve heard of the Amnesia Character CDs, but so far I’ve only listened to Shin and Toma’s as well as Ikki and Kent’s. I love their soine tracks the most *3* especially Ikki’s and Toma’s haha. The mini-drama sounds hilarious and I should really get to listening to them! It’s so hard keeping up with all the tokuten drama tracks they have for these Amnesia guys.

All of the seiyuu are pretty good singers aren’t they? Except for Ishida who decided not to sing anymore :( but UGH Hino and Taniyama are such a good singers.

Yes-yes! I agree, Taniyama and Hino are really amazing. And you can sometimes not realize that it’s Taniyama’s voice for some characters. I like Kakihara Tetsuya’s too, his work is really amazing, and he has such a soft voice^^.
I don’t really know much about Ishida Akira, did he really just decide that he doesn’t want to sing? That’s kind of strange, Japanese voice actors get quite a lot for songs. And I was wondering for so much time why Ikki got 2 songs in the character cd, and Kent got none.
Oh, if you haven’t listened to any of the drama CD, I recommend the Amnesia of the Dead, Ikki’s evil laugh is so epic, lol. I think that drama CD was my favorite, it’s so creepy, and sometimes funny, really interesting. The evil voices of the whole staff(well, almost), I was really amazed how they handle such things.

From what I heard from a friend and rumors was that he used to sing, but a few fans said that he sucked at singing and so then he never sang again. That’s why he always does talking monologues now if there’s ever character songs and stuff.

Ooh, yeah! I actually listened to that one, haha. I love how they made it an epic game and Ikki was acting so seriously. I’ve listened to a few other ones like Ukyo falling asleep and dreaming that he had to past tests and stuff from all the other guys in order to get out of the dream world. It’s so hard to keep track of all the mini-drama CDs they have for this game though and they just keep coming out with more x_x. I hope it doesn’t start to become milked like Hakuouki.

    Hi! I’m really sorry, I didn’t know it could cause a problem, I thought it would be unfair to put pics on the blog and I thought it might be a way to attract more visitors to your site – my bad, didn’t think of it in that way (bandwidth – I’m sorry, my folks must have been really hungry for Toma’s sexiness :D). Fixing it right now. ^___^;;;;

Oh no worries!! It isn’t that big of a problem, but I just prefer minimizing as much bandwidth as possible (・ω\). Just having a link saying that the original is at my site is good enough~ so don’t worry. On another note, you’re doing a really good job at translating gfshgfjhdg 頑張れ!

I recently found your blog after I became interested in Amnesia.
I honestly could not stand the anime, but after reading the different story lines I found it absolutely captivating and it makes me look forward to seeing how the anime adapts the game. Thank you very much for putting up detailed posts. Just like you, I love Ikki so much! He’s just so adorable >////< I feel like I have strangely high expectations for my future (nonexistent) boyfriend now :')
Do you happen to have any tips for learning Japanese?
    Thank you~

‘Allo allo! Haha, it’s an unfortunate fact that anime versions of games tend to be rather bad in comparison to the game itself. It’s kind of like movie adaptations of books that can go really well or really horrible and with games, it tends to be harder since each route is like a different story. It’s hard to show that in an anime format, but I think the anime is adapting it pretty well since the heroine is shifting into different worlds (that way they can show individual scenes of the guys’ routes).

Aww yay! More for the Ikki fan club |D I promise we’re not as scary as his actual fan club. //swoons Ikki is sexy, adorable, charming, and fantastic. HAHA I’m sorry for being so biased. But don’t worry, you aren’t alone in your strangely high expectations for your future boyfriend now. If I met someone like Ikki I would… be attracted to them so badly.

      Psst.. I’ll let you know a secret. I was talking to my friends and told them about this guy I knew who I was attracted to and they told me that he sounds a little like Ikki… and so it’s not impossible or unrealistic!! There really are nice, dorky, and charming men out there! I’m probably just attracted to these qualities in general |D;;

In regards to learning Japanese, I hope you don’t mind me plugging in this article I wrote about that on Otome Jikan here. I talk about how I started learning Japanese and it gives a list of resources that I, and others, found really helpful!

You’re welcome and thank you for dropping by to comment!

        So there IS hope >____<
Waaah good luck to you and this Ikki-like guy! :') I hope everything goes well hahaha

Thank you for the helpful article! I'm hoping to learn Japanese and Korean so I'll need all the help I can get.

No problem. It's so fun to read your translation and especially your comments!

Thank you for bringing this to my attention! I’ll be sure to take a look at it when I find myself with the time /o\ I don’t play many mobile otome games and so I can’t say when I’ll get to it.

However, I recommend posting this to “Reaching Towards You” in my blogroll here because the author of that blog likes to review mobile otome games. I’ll leave this here to encourage other people to try it out :3!

Hi, I stopped by your blog a few days ago when I had a few problems to get through one of the stories in Amnesia. I was so glad that I found it here. You try to stay as accurate as possible, and your comments just make me literally laugh out loud.
I just want to say how I want to thank you for writing this blog, and that I will continue to come here and read your future posts. Even though about games that I don’t think I will play, because I’m not such of a….hard-core player, I guess, hahaha, but reading your blog is really entertaining :) Almost like reading a book.

You’re very welcome o////o and it makes me blush in happiness at how you like my comments. Sometimes I’m afraid I’m just being obnoxious when I comment on what’s happening, so it’s good to hear that you enjoyed them!

Aww, thank you so much! It really motivates me to continue on when I hear that people like reading my ridiculous TL;DR walls, haha. I wouldn’t call myself a hard-core player either with my pitiful amount of games reviewed, but I try to pick up ones I find interesting. I hope to see you around and feel free to comment anywhere at any time~!

I think it’s great to hear comments from you, because only you can really experience what is happening in the game. And It’s nice to hear what you think about it.
Yup, I’ll surely be coming here again. Oh, and I also wanted to say that I really loved your “audio reviews?”. I don’t really know how to call them, even though they were quite long, they were very entertaining and they made me laugh. You’re thoughts about otome games turned into anime were really wise. And I also like your voice^^ (Lol, I hope I don’t sound like a creep),
