Light Beyond Road’s End [LN]

I actually discovered this book thanks to Kukkiriri’s teaser translations and immediately went out to buy the light novel version. I know that there is a web version being translated by Agni at yAmi translations but there are major differences between the two versions (there’s an introduction of a new character in Ch2 already but the bulk of the changes start from Ch5 of the light novel, which corresponds to Ch15 or so in the web version). I’m going to tackle the LN translation; I’ve read up to Chapter 30 of the web version but I’m more partial to the light novel because I felt like the themes were presented and wrapped up better in the books, but your mileage may vary – I have a friend who has read both but prefers the web version – so I hope Agni continues with their translations so people can have both experiences.

Do you have any other recs for shojo LN? I have the entire Sugar Fairy Apple Fairy Tale, Strobe Edge, Ao Haru Ride, and some of the Earl & Fairy. But….obvs can’t read them just yet
    (*̩̩̩ᵋ *̩̩̩ )

I prefer fantasy with a capable heroine-strength/willpower/intelligent. I don’t care what strength she has so long as she either grows over the story or at least does her best and manages most of the time. I really want a healthy relationship so no rape, yandere, stalking lol.

And….I think that’s it. Some kissing would be nice because I’ve yet to find a LN that actually has it unless it’s for the male audience. Smh.

Wow, sorry for the ramble. It’s ok if you don’t have any. If not, perhaps you could direct me to a place where you shop for LN’s?

Funnily I don’t actually read many shojo LNs |D;; probably because I play VNs instead. I tend to read much more English novels or translated cnovels.

For recommendations, I’d say “Okobore Hime to Entaku no Kishi” (still ongoing) and, if you’re really enjoying Light Beyond, I’d recommend Akidzuki’s other series “Isekai Demodori Funtouki” (complete) though I may pick that one up… but that’d be in the far future. I’m sure after I’m done this one I just want to take a huge rest and get back at cracking my otoge backlog LOL.

Hm, I really liked this one “Danshaku Reijo wa Barairo no Jinsei wo Ayumitai” (complete) too. Compared to those two others it’s a power fantasy for girls because the girl basically has godly powers, so it’s all feel good and romantic (lots of kissing and skinship!). IIRC the language in this one was really easy (at least compared to those two other recommendations which have political details or technical details).

I’m really picky about LNs more so than VNs because writing style means everything in LNs, while VNs can get by with great seiyuu, visuals, and story premise sometimes for me. (For example, if BWS was a LN I probably would have avoided it because there’s so much purple prose @_@ but it was so good as a VN). Usually I only read completed LNs too because I don’t want to wait, oops.

But generally I check Amazon. If you click on the book titles in this page, it’ll lead you to Light Beyond’s shop page but at the bottom you can see there’s a lot of “people who have bought this also bought…” and you can start clicking around and reading their summaries to see if anything catches your interest. If they don’t have a summary on Amazon then you can also just google the name and it’ll lead you to their publishers, who are usually a great source on other works that aren’t sold on Amazon.

I just did a quick search right now and ooh apparently there’s a Light Novel Database . The link leads to their releases page where you can browse which books were released per month, and I’ve set the target readership to “female” so it’s all shojo LNs showing.

Also! Most LNs are picked up by publishers from this site Syosetsu which also has R15 and R18 works (if you want more detailed kissing and stuff). It’s all in Japanese so it might take a bit to get used to, but once you start browsing works you can also see a “people who bookmarked this story also read this…” to try and get a chain going of similar stories you liked.

Wow, this became a massive comment but I hope they help! Also, I just realized I didn’t give many recommendations at all LOL I might be too picky because I’ve actually clicked through tons of these suggestion links and dropped so many LNs after the first two chapters, oops. Um… I heard “Konyakusha wa Watashi no Imouto ni Koi wo Suru” (ongoing) is also good and made my friend cry, but I’m waiting for it to finish before checking it out.

EDIT: OH SHIT. HOW COULD I FORGET THIS ONE “Tensei Oujo wa Kyou mo Hata o Tatakioru” (ongoing). It’s so good and currently being translated by the amazing Kukkiriri, whose translations are fabulous, so you should check this one out too!

You’re very welcome <3! Lots of hints of pain, haha, especially that Asyut quote right there.
